restaurant.com—our date night favorite

restaurant.comWe don’t tend to go out for a lot of meals, because it really is more economical to cook at home most of the time, but it is definitely to go out and have someone cook for us some of the time.  But why pay full price?  That’s where Restaurant.com comes in—cheap gift certificates for restaurants in your area.  For instance, you can search by zip code, and they offer $25 gift certificates for $10, and $10 gift certificates for $4.  But that’s not where it ends!  There is almost always a promo code out there that will get you 50-70% off the cost of the discounted gift certificates.

There is one thing to keep in mind: in most cases, the restaurants sponsoring these certificates usually have some kind of minimum purchase requirement, so be sure to check the fine print before you make your purchase.  Also, the certificates don’t usually expire right away, so you can buy a couple at once and then use them as you like.

We used our latest certificate (cost us $2) to eat at Famous Dave’s!  Here was the breakdown:

2 entrees, drinks, appetizer, and dessert: $37.94
tax: $2.28
tip: $8.00

total: $48.22
gift certificate: $23 ($25 less $2 purchase price… we had an 80% off coupon code)
our total cost: $25.22

Truthfully, for the same budget, we could have still eaten at the restaurant, but we would probably have been limited to just the two entrees, no drinks, and a mediocre tip to our server.  Doing it the restaurant.com way, we were able to get way more for our money, plus really bless our server as well.

BONUS: Looking for a gift?  They’ve launched a “dinner of the month” promotion where you can buy certificates in bulk at 3, 6, and 12 month intervals.
